Here’s the second of the two videos Martin and I recorded in my unfinished “studio” (a.k.a. garage) back in June, just before the builders started work on the roof — just uploaded to my YouTube channel today. This song had a long gestation: I wrote the first version of the lyrics the morning after the event that inspired them — and published them straightaway on social media — but since then they’ve been substantially revised, while the melody, keyboard accompaniment and overall structure have also gone through several big changes since I first performed it in public just under a year ago. I think this is the final version, though! Sometimes I have to take a little poetic license when I’m writing songs, but every bit of this one actually happened, including the free chocolate. Great big thanks to the receptionist on duty the night of Friday the 10th of May 2024 at Premier Inn Stockton-On-Tees.
I’ll be recording this song on my next album once the building work is finished — and if you’d like to help make that happen, please consider contributing here – I’d be hugely grateful for your help, and am happy to show my gratitude with thank-you gifts that range from signed CDs or LPs to FREE DOWNLOADS FOR LIFE of all my future recorded output (plus my new Bandcamp exclusive archival release “Walking Into White Live In Rapid City”), handwritten/illustrated lyrics, guitar lessons, livestreamed concerts and more. Thank you so much!
