Mama: News

Happy New Year! - January 1, 2009

A very happy new year to all of you from Mama.

We’re delighted to announce that our debut album, Crow Coyote Buffalo, is out at long last and has been getting some brilliant notices. The Financial Times (The Financial Times!) gave the CD four stars and wrote that “This unlikely pairing of none-more-’90s club diva and Appalachian folk puritan have made a captivating album.” BRfm DJ Chris Phillips reported that “I played it on air this morning and within five minutes one of my colleagues had stopped what he was doing and rushed to the studio to find out where this heavenly sound had emerged.” Spiral Earth’s Iain Hazlewood placed Crow Coyote Buffalo in his Top Ten Albums of 2008 and described it as “Two pagan goddesses channeling the ghost of Jim Morrison via 60s acid folk ... Without doubt the most original thing I have heard this year.”

We’ve had airplay on BBC Cornwall, BBC Wales, BlastFM (Reading), AllFM (Manchester) and even from Radio 6’s Tom Robinson, who made reference on his show to “the excellent band Mama”.

And on 16 January we’ll be getting revved up for what we hope will be a busy 2009 with a short gig in London, playing support to Hot Kid at the Constitution in Camden Town. We’re on the bill for the Acoustic Festival of Britain in May, and hope to be able to give you more tour news in the near future.

Cheers!
